EMPLOYMENT & LABOUR
We understand that your personnel matters are personal, and need to be handled quickly, confidentially, and effectively. Employee management has become increasingly complex and litigious in recent years. Whether you’re in crisis or preparing for future changes, we can help. We focus on providing service and advice which is timely, practical, and proactive. We strive to work collaboratively with you to find solutions which align with your organization’s goals and values, and offer strategies aimed at preventing problems before they arise and result in costly disputes.
Our labour and employment law group handles both union and non-union aspects of personnel management. Members of our labour and employment law group have experience before the Supreme Court of Canada, all levels of the Alberta Courts, the Alberta Labour Relations Board, Boards of Arbitration and a variety of other administrative tribunals, such as the Alberta Human Rights Commission.
We have advised and represented non-unionized employers, particularly local authorities, throughout the long history of the firm, on all issues including:
- Wrongful and constructive dismissals
- Human rights complaints
- Employment contracts
- Policy drafting and review
In addition to extensive experience with non-union workplaces, we have, and continue to deal with all aspects of unionized workplaces including:
- Certification applications
- Collective bargaining
- Collective agreement arbitration
- Unfair labour practices
- Strikes and lockouts
- Certification revocation
- Judicial review
