Samuel’s practice at Brownlee focuses on insurance and litigation. He primarily works with Brownlee’s insurance litigation department as a Research and Writing Associate. Samuel also has significant experience with administrative law, municipal and public sector law, First Nations and Indigenous law, labour law, employment law, environmental law, and privacy law.

During his university tenure, Samuel served as a research assistant for four distinguished law professors in regard to various topics including the law of expropriation, regulatory prosecutions, the law of evidence, and constitutional law.

Prior to joining Brownlee, Samuel articled at a full-service boutique law firm. During his articles, he focused on litigation and policy development files.

During law school, Samuel was a member of the winning team in Clinton J Ford Moot on constitutional law.

Samuel was the recipient of several awards in law school, including the Chomicki Baril Mah Prize in Civil Procedure, the Professor Bill Angus Prize in Criminal Law, and the Crown Attorneys’ Association Prize in Criminal Procedure.

While attending law school, Samuel served as a member of the Alberta Law Review’s Editorial Board. He also served as President of the University of Alberta’s Runnymede Society Chapter.

Samuel is working on a number of articles on law and public policy, which are intended for publication in the near future.

Samuel volunteers with the Edmonton Community Legal Centre on a biweekly basis, providing summary legal advice and drafting assistance on civil litigation matters to members of the community with limited income. During law school, Samuel also volunteered with Student Legal Services and Pro Bono Students Canada.

Outside of his career with Brownlee, Samuel enjoys running, bouldering, biking, and swimming. Samuel has stated that “This routine always gives me a sense of inner peace and continual self-improvement.” He aspires to someday run a marathon, and is continuously working towards reaching that goal.

Samuel is also deeply passionate about writing and current affairs. He has a profound interest in history, especially as it relates to classical anitquity, science, or the cold war.
