Lisa Sirman joined Brownlee LLP as a lawyer in the Construction and Corporate Commercial Litigation group after completing her Articles with Brownlee in 2023.

Prior to graduating law school at the University of Alberta Faculty of Law, Lisa worked as a legal assistant and file management clerk for another Edmonton-area firm. She also worked at a local court reporting firm, where she was responsible for preparing legal transcripts and transcript scoping.

While studying law, Lisa volunteered with Student Legal Services, played on the Faculty of Laws co-ed soccer team and was a member of the Women’s Legal Forum. Outside of school, Lisa volunteered at Edmonton Youth Justice Committee Society and was a team member on various recreational sports teams.

Lisa’s first experience at Brownlee came in 2020 when she was a summer student. She returned in 2021 to flex her legal assistant abilities in the Business Practice Area, and jumped on the opportunity to Article with the firm for 2022 – 2023. She successfully completed her Articles in June of 2023 and was called to the Alberta Bar in August of 2023. Lisa is a member of the Brownlee Softball Team and an organizer of the Firm Curling Tournament.

As member of the Brownlee Construction and Corporate Commercial Litigation group, Lisa’s area of practice will focus on construction litigation, commercial litigation, contract related matters and enforcement matters.

Lisa enjoys problem-solving, critical thinking, oral advocacy, negotiating, and working in a collaborative environment. “Every day I am challenged intellectually as the law is constantly changing and there is always something new to learn”, she said.

Outside of the office, Lisa enjoys spending time with her husband, dog and extended family as well as skiing, hiking, camping and being outdoors.

I see a career in law as a means to make a change and also to hold people accountable for their actions. A career as a lawyer seemed like the easy choice for me as it pushes me intellectually and also provides me with the opportunity to work directly with people.
