When Jessica Liu joined Brownlee LLP’s Insurance Litigation Practice Area as a research and writing lawyer in September 2020, she aligned her legal career with her two other passions: reading, and editing the written word.
Prior to joining Brownlee, Jessica was a practitioner in civil litigation with a focus on personal injury, insurance claims, and labour and employment law.
“I love the academic aspects of law,” Jessica noted, “including staying on top of new developments in the law; conducting legal research; developing creative
solutions and arguments; and drafting legal opinions, quantum assessments, and written submissions.”
She added: “My love of learning and passion for research and writing have allowed me to develop thorough but efficient practices when conducting legal analyses, providing legal opinions with realistic risk assessments, and drafting persuasive written arguments.”
Jessica previously volunteered as an editor for the Canadian Labour and Employment Law
Journal, and as a coach for a national labour arbitration competition where she mentored oralists.
A big supporter of the Arts, Jessica’s downtime includes reading and editing original works of fiction; attending theatre and ballet productions; and sitting on the volunteer Board for the Anne Burrows Music Foundation, a non-profit organization which fundraises money for music students at the post-secondary level.

WHY LAW
Having participated in debate, public speaking and dramatic performance growing up, it seemed natural to pursue a career where I could continue to do these things that I loved while helping people at the same time
