Sam articled at a firm in Newfoundland and Labrador with an insurance defence litigation practice before joining Brownlee LLP in 2020 as an Associate in its Insurance Litigation group. He has an interest in insurance litigation because he enjoys finding creative solutions for complex problems.
In junior high and high school, Sam participated in many speech and debate tournaments across Canada and within Newfoundland and Labrador.
In university, he served for two years as president of the Memorial University United Nations Society where he organized an annual Model United Nations conference attended by high school students throughout Eastern Newfoundland. In law school, his favourite courses involved practical components such as Civil Trial Practice and Alternative Dispute Resolution.
Before attending law school, Sam attained a master’s
degree and undergraduate degree in Political Science from Memorial University of Newfoundland. He then went to the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University where he was a member of the L’Eagles Inner Tube Water Polo team, the European Handball team, and the flag football team. He also contributed to the Weldon Times newspaper where he wrote on topics ranging from current affairs to guides for incoming students and students going on exchange.
